Siobhan
City of residence: Chicago, IL
Age: 18
Length of time in the scene: "Four or five years"
Occupation: "Student/Theologian"
Education: "Freshman at Loyola University Chicago. Intended major: Graphic Design"
Musical taste: "More 'old school' goth -- Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance, Christian Death, Joy Division, Virgin Prunes, The Cure. Some more modern stuff -- Rosetta Stone, Switchblade Symphony, Trio Nocturna, Das Ich, Love and Rockets, medieval folk -- Death in June, Current 93, darkwave, industrial. Others to note -- some Britpop (the Who, the Verve, Paul Weller) and classic rock (the Doors, Pink Floyd, CCR, The Grateful Dead) as well."
Distinctions in appearance: "Five piercings (2 in one ear, 3 in another). Hair is mostly auburn and curly at the nape of the neck with long dark blue bangs (sometimes black). Mostly band shirts, I like flare pants and bellbottoms. I would think my personal style is an English Mod meets a gutterpunk meets a gothic with a little hippy for uniqueness."
Hobbies, activities, interests: "I work on my zine often enough that it should be out very soon. I like to read of medieval time, sit by the lake and ponder life, and maybe just end up at the cemetery and hang out with some friends."
Spiritual, philosophical, religious affiliation: "Maybe not a defined religious affiliation or what not. I think I have more of an 'existential' belief in life. I believe that there is something out there, but it is up to man to find it, rather than it finding man. Also, relating to philosophies, mine would have to be of the Skeptic, hold no opinions, state what you think, no matter the consequences, find a reason for the emotions and achieve tranquillity."
Goals, dreams: "To get my zine out and running, to find money for the basic essentials of life, to actually find something to ease the void that has tumored my existence (no, I'm not mopey, just heartbroken)."
Do you consider yourself gothic?: "I really think that I, personally, am multifaceted as a Goth There are so many aspects that are attributed to that one particular word, and if I answered a straight yes, I've considerably forgotten about other parts of myself that wouldn't really hold well into that genre. So for a straight answer, I would have to reply 'sometimes.' it depends on the course my life has run during that time.' Gothic to me is a mindset, and the aesthetics that follow that mindset, albeit not in appearances -- that would be superficial. It encompasses the ability to view all aspects of life: the happy, the melancholy, the joyous, the grievous, with equal importance balancing on them all.
